FREDERICK — The Army Corps of Engineers says completion of the Army’s new flagship laboratory building at in Frederick has been pushed back two years to 2017.

The Frederick News-Post reported Wednesday on the delay.

Spokesman Clem Gaines says the delay is due to damage from a fire last summer at the construction site for the new headquarters of the Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases.

Before the blaze, the building was expected to open this year. The completion date was pushed back to 2015 after the fire, which caused $10 million worth of damage.
