Mayer joins strategic communications firm
A long-time spokesman for Gov. Larry Hogan is moving from the public to the private sector but won’t be leaving politics.
Douglass Mayer, Hogan’s former communications director at the State House and later for the 2018 re-election campaign, will join Strategic Partners & Media as a partner. The Annapolis-based firm worked for Hogan during the campaign.
“They are the best story tellers in the business and their record of success in blue, purple, and red states speaks for itself. I look forward to adding to what is already a top-notch reputation,” said Mayer.
Mayer’s departure was not unexpected. He officially left the governor’s office as communications director in the spring to join Hogan’s campaign. Prior to leaving, Mayer, known for his often pointed and snarky quotes, told reporters that he planned to join the private sector at the end of the campaign.
Prior to working for Hogan, the Maryland native spent two years two years in South Carolina working as communications director for Governor Nikki Haley. His wife, Allison Skipper Mayer, is managing director of marketing and communications for the state Department of Commerce.
Strategic Partners & Media is a full-service communications and advertising firm that provides political strategy and media consulting services to Republican candidates.
Mayer, in his role as partner, will focus on business development including expanding the strategic communication services for non-political and corporate clients.
