Caroline County judge reportedly under investigation extends leave
Bryan P. Sears//August 23, 2021//
A Caroline County judge said to be under investigation remains on leave.
Circuit Court Judge Jonathan Newell remains on paid leave for another two weeks, according to a Maryland Judiciary spokeswoman.
Newell first went on leave in July as reports surfaced that he was the subject of an investigation. The subject of that investigation has yet to be made public.
This is the second extension of leave for Newell. The judiciary spokeswoman said Newell remains on paid leave through Sept. 3.
Newell previously served as Caroline County state’s attorney for 13 years before Gov. Larry Hogan named him to the bench in July 2016.
