Laura Clary, MSN, RN, FNE-A/P, SANE-A, SANE-P, has dedicated her professional life to the field of forensic nursing specializing in adult and pediatric examinations.

Becoming a registered nurse in 2008, she began her career as a night shift emergency room nurse at Medstar Union Memorial Hospital and later moved into the pediatric emergency department at Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center. Clary became an adult/adolescent forensic nurse examiner in 2010 and a pediatric forensic nurse examiner in 2013.

For nearly a decade, she has served as the SAFE domestic violence and SAFE clinical program manager at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). Her work included helping to build the center’s pediatric sexual abuse program from the ground up. Clary knew the most vulnerable population needed somewhere to go to receive patient-centered, child and family friendly care as well as evidence-based medical forensic treatment.

In 2019, Clary became the lead pediatric forensic nurse examiner for the Baltimore County Child Advocacy Center. Last year, GBMC named her child protection program manager.

“She has worked tirelessly to ensure victims of violence are cared for in a trauma-informed, safe space, and that all of their needs are met,” said Ashley McAree, forensic nurse examiner at GBMC. “…She has done so much to support and care for victims in the greater Baltimore area and has played an immeasurable role in making the community a safer place.”
