Julia Jasken
President, McDaniel College

The “McDaniel Commitment” is the college’s promise that students will be on a path to success from the moment they set foot on the school’s campus in Westminster.
“We knew many students had interaction with our Center for Experience and Opportunity, were engaged in experiential learning, and were taking courses that focused on career development.
“So rather than just continuing to make it possible for students to have these experiences, we implemented a four-year plan that guarantees these experiences within the curriculum,” Jasken wrote.
Jasken is moving the college forward with environmental stewardship in mind.
In 2022, Jasken established a Sustainability Committee made up of students, faculty and staff to prioritize the campus’ environmentally friendly initiatives.
Jasken said she is proud of the 2022 launch of The McDaniel Environmental Center, an outdoor learning lab consisting of 30 acres of forested land, 20 acres of fields and eight acres of student farming land as well as ponds and streams.
Additionally, Jasken said she is proud of the college’s work through the pandemic to provide a unique back-to-school, in-person experience.
“The pandemic presented numerous unprecedented challenges to colleges and universities, but the crisis really brought out the best on our campus,” she wrote.
