Before deciding on which bar or restaurant to patronize, many people will usually try to find out about daily specials. But individual and review-focused websites are not always up-to-date.

To help out thirsty and hungry Baltimoreans, Phil DiMuro and Dave Phelan co-founded Loople, a free mobile app as an easy way to find food and drink specials and live music in the area.

After college, DiMuro spent three years as a Boston Beer Company sales representative in Baltimore. He saw how businesses struggled to communicate daily deals and events to their regular and potential customer base.

“When you looked online, there was not one spot to find the information and most of the time it was inaccurate,” DiMuro said.

Since launching in June 2015, Loople has more than 13,500 users in Baltimore and highlights over 4,000 specials in 2,000 local bars and restaurants. The app’s core demographic is made of millennials with about 80 percent of the user base being between the ages of 21 to 35.

“Typically, they are young professionals who are active and go out on a regular basis,” DiMuro said. “They are using (our app) because we are the easiest way to find the most accurate information about what is going on at all the bars and restaurants in the area.”

DiMuro credited mentors and Baltimore’s startup community with helping him and Phelan through the hurdles of a new product. He also sees great potential in companies using the date collected by Loople as a way to target marketing and promotions.

“We definitely see other opportunities down the road,” he said.
