The Maryland Food Bank is distributing more than 60,000 pounds of food to laid-off Sparrow’s Point workers and other community members that have been affected by the steel plant’s closure. Renee Stankiwicz, a crane operator, and Michael McVicker, an ironworker, accept food Wednesday from steelworker Mike Lewis at United Steelworkers Union Hall in Dundalk. Just imagine what the picture would have been if the Justice Department was upholding Rule of Law at Federal and State levels. We would have billions returning to the state in financial fraud…..billions returning to the state in health care fraud, all of which would have been able to stimulate the local economy. Rather, we have investment banks and hedge funds still rich from fraud bringing global companies to the city complete with their own management hiring people like the steel workers at poverty wage.
Seems better to have tooled the Steel Mill properly at first sale to give a competitive boost and good paying jobs. Either way, we wouldn’t have seen Steel workers at the food bank!
