What is your most significant accomplishment?
Most significantly it was rebuilding the Baltimore City Office of Civil Rights, which was three agencies combined in one: the Civilian Review Board (which had oversight over the Baltimore City police and three other law enforcement agencies in the City), the Community Relations Commission (which was the local EEOC handling all of the public & private employer discrimination complaints) and the Wage Commission (which oversaw the minimum, living and prevailing wage laws).
When I arrived two of the three commissions were defunct and hadn’t had a quorum in over a year. They were in a temporary building and I didn’t start with one file from the previous director. I had to start from scratch. I did the entire design of the newly constructed office building, redesigned our website, all pamphlets, hired 80% new staff, gave every position a pay upgrade, wrote policies and procedures, participated in police reform efforts and created engaging community events.
