Executive Director

Urban Alliance

Since she took over two years ago as executive director of the Urban Alliance in Baltimore, an organization that helps young people get the training and experience they need to find good jobs, Stephanie Amponsah has been a busy woman.

She has increased the number of area schools the alliance works with from 10 to 14, and expanded the advisory board from four to eight people and the staff from three to five.

In addition, she has established a dual enrollment program with the University of Baltimore, a new internship and mentorship program with the Center for Medicaid Services and a partnership with city’s Summer Youth Works program.

“I have the unique opportunity to inspire change both in my organization and community,” Amponsah said. “At Urban Alliance we empower under-resourced youth to aspire, work, and succeed through paid internships, formal training, and mentoring.”

Born in Columbia to West African immigrants, Amponsah credits her upbringing with both her work ethic and generosity.

“They came to this country for a better education and opportunity,” she said of her parents. “In turn, it has lead me to dedicate my life to the human service field to ensure youth have access to the opportunities they deserve.”
