ROCKVILLE — A portion of Metro’s red line has been shut down because of power lines hanging above the tracks.
The red line was closed Tuesday between the Shady Grove and Twinbrook stations in Montgomery County. Metro spokesman Steven Taubenkibel says the problem was reported about 10 a.m. He says the hanging power lines have made it unsafe to operate trains on that part of the tracks.
Pepco spokesman Andre Francis says it’s not yet clear if the problem is weather-related. He says the lines are hanging lower than they should be but that no lines are broken.
Shuttle buses are ferrying passengers between the two Metro stops. Taubenkibel says riders could also use Metrobuses or Ride On buses if they want to avoid the shuttles.
