Work officially started at the $170 million mixed-use Liberty Harbor East project.
The 22-story building at 711 S. Central Ave. is being developed by majority owner Habor East Management Group and development partner The Bozzuto Group, which will also serve as general contractor and property manager. Liberty Harbor East will feature 282 apartments, 35 condominiums and 575 parking spaces.
The building will also provide a new 50,000-square-foot “flagship location” for the Whole Foods Market now at Fleet and Exeter streets in Harbor East. The new location will be twice the size of the current store and will provide a second floor cafe area.
“It has been extremely exciting to witness Harbor East’s continued evolution as a neighborhood as well as a regional destination and the Liberty Harbor East project is yet another significant milestone that reflects just how far the area has come,” Tim O’Donald, president of Harbor East Management Group, said in a news release. “Liberty Harbor East will be distinctly Baltimore and uniquely Harbor East, providing a modern and vibrant setting for residents seeking both respite and community.”
The name is in part a recognition of the Liberty Ships that served as cargo vessels during World War II and which were built at the Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard in Baltimore.
