April Birnbaum Mackoff

Vice President, Real Estate and Public Affairs
Clear Channel Outdoor

mackoff-april-9143April Birnbaum Mackoff believes that the key to her success is adaptability. She serves as vice president of real estate and public affairs for Clear Channel Outdoor, where she manages a multistate outdoor advertising real estate portfolio. She is also one of the few females in the male-dominated outdoor advertising and commercial real estate industry.

Prior to joining Clear Channel, Mackoff was an attorney at McCullough Hill Leary, where she handled complex zoning and real estate matters. While some of the work is similar, she found she had to step out of her comfort zone often.

“My philosophy is simple — always be yourself and never stop learning, growing and pioneering,” she said.

That philosophy has helped her reap big rewards, and she works to instill this in young professional women who may fear taking professional risks of their own.

“Professional risks are oftentimes fortuitous opportunities that can yield huge payoffs,” she added.

Mackoff regularly fundraises and provides advertising space for Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland, which she said helps to take guns and criminals off the streets. She also regularly contributes her time to CREW Suburban Maryland to help connect women in commercial real estate. In 2009, she received the Henry F. Lerch Pro Bono Service Award for contributing more than 100 hours of pro bono legal services to Habitat for Humanity. She was selected as a Rising Star in Land Use and Zoning by Maryland Super Lawyers in 2011 and 2013.

She received a Bachelor of Science in urban studies and environmental studies in 2002 from the University of Pennsylvania, a Masters of Environmental Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 2003 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland in 2007.
