Law Offices of Jaimee C. McDowell
At age 34, Waldorf-based attorney Jaimee C. McDowell has already made quite a name for herself in the southern Maryland legal community.
Since 2013, McDowell has been running her own legal office, The Law Offices of Jaime McDowell, which offers a range of legal services, both criminal and civil. Her office also handles matters of family law, including custody, divorce, guardianship and adoption. She has a contract with the Office of the Public Defender to handle conflict cases. McDowell is the youngest woman of color running her own small law firm in southern Maryland.
“Being able to run a successful law firm for the past six years has been my most significant professional achievement,” McDowell said. “I have seen so many attorneys go out on their own and not last long, so to still be here and growing is a blessing.”
But McDowell says she sees her success in law as a vehicle to help her achieve a higher goal.
“My achievements have allowed me to give more back to the community,” she said. “At the end of the day, I want to look back on my life and know that I have helped people, that I have made an impact on my community. That is what drives me each day.”
McDowell currently serves the community as a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., which provides services for youth. With her local chapter, she has participated in shoe and school supply drives along with other community service projects. She has spoken to youth groups about knowing their rights and interacting with police, and she works with the Family Law Clinic at two courthouses providing pro bono legal advice.
McDowell, who was born in Vicenzia, Italy, received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and criminology from The University Of Maryland, College Park and a Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, Florida.
McDowell has been named a Super Lawyers Rising Star each year from 2017 to 2019.
