Michael Ryan
CEO, South River Technologies
Before he started South River Technologies, an Annapolis cybersecurity company, in 2001, Michael Ryan already had years of experience in software development and cybersecurity.
In 1992, he was a member of the initial start-up team of Maryland-based OTG Software, then worked for a security company where he wrote encryption systems for international banks. A few years later started KnoWare Inc., another tech company. In 1999, he joined a California-based online storage startup as a vice president and helped grow the company to more than 200 employees and raise more than $100 million in venture financing.
He was a member of the board of directors for LAUNCH! Annapolis, a support group for startup founders and investors that helps with tasks such as business mentoring and media exposure, as well as on the board of the CyberSecurity Association of Maryland Inc. (CAMI).
Ryan also was the founding president and served on the board of directors for the Chesapeake Regional Technology Council and has served on the board of directors for Sonum Technologies, a Maryland-based artificial intelligence firm, and the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC), a hybrid incubator and accelerator for entrepreneurs, start-ups and small businesses.
Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Loyola University Maryland.
He enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing his passions of mountain biking and Ironman triathlons, competing in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 2022.
