Michael Hankin is a partner and the president and CEO of Brown Advisory, a role he has held since 1998. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to guiding both individuals and institutions in their investment and financial endeavors. Beyond his professional achievements, Hankin is deeply committed to the role of business leaders in their communities and leading by example wherever possible. In a 2017 TEDx talk titled “Speak Up. Where It Counts. Loudly,” he discussed his personal journey toward becoming a vocal advocate for positive change within the business sphere and encouraged other business leaders and community members to do the same.

Hankin’s community involvement is extensive, serving as chairman of the Baltimore Healthy Harbor Project, trustee and vice-chair of Johns Hopkins Medicine and as a member of the Principal Professional Staff and former chair of the Board of Managers of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab. He also sits on the boards of directors of Greater Baltimore Committee, Business Executives for National Security, Nature Sacred and National Park Foundation.

In addition to these roles, Hankin serves on the board of directors of Stanley Black & Decker, as well as three private companies: Tate Engineering Services Inc., The Wills Group Inc. and 1251 Capital Group Inc. Hankin received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Emory University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He also earned a Juris Doctor from The University of Virginia School of Law
