American Cancer Society breaks ground on expanded Hope Lodge Baltimore
The American Cancer Society broke ground April 8 on a new Hope Lodge Baltimore facility expected to provide 30% more free lodging for cancer patients traveling for treatment.
More than 100 guests attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the future 34-room Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Hope Lodge Baltimore, located at 635 W. Lexington Street on the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus.
The $10 million project will replace the current Hope Lodge built in 1987, adding eight more guest rooms and new amenities. Construction by Harkins Builders is underway in a vacant building across from the present location.
In 2024, Hope Lodge Baltimore provided more than 13,000 free night stays to over 500 guests, saving them approximately $1.6 million in hotel costs. The campaign needs less than $400,000 to complete its fundraising goal.
