Moore elected vice chair, chair-elect of National Governors Association
Gov. Wes Moore has reached another accomplishment since making history in Maryland more than two years ago.
On July 26, the Democratic political leader was elected as vice chair of the National Governors Association, which is the only bipartisan national organization of, by and for the nation’s governors. He will serve as vice chair over the next year before succeeding Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt as chair in 2026, says a release from the governor’s office.
The two will collaborate to lead a series of meetings with governors, private-sector leaders and others to advance the chair’s “Reigniting the American Dream” initiative, focusing on three policy priorities: unlocking economic opportunity through entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic mobility; reimagining education by expanding hands-on learning, career and technical education; and strengthening sustainable energy systems through permitting reform, regulatory clarity and strategic investment.
“We all want to create a brighter future for our states, and the nation. When we get together at the National Governors Association, we’re focused on whether an idea is good, not on where the idea came from,” Moore said.
“I’m looking forward to collaborating with my fellow governors to build stronger on-ramps to opportunity so every person in our states has a shot at success – no matter how they define it.”
As vice chair, Moore will spearhead the organization’s efforts to identify innovative policy solutions through bipartisan collaboration and research, among other duties and tasks centered around creating measurable bipartisan solutions.
Founded in 1908, NGA is considered the voice of the leaders across the states, territories and commonwealths.
