BGE power outage warning lifted
Baltimore Gas & Electric lifted the warning of the potential for widespread power outages Monday evening.
Earlier, BGE had warned customers of a possible widespread outage because a power plant that serves BGE customers experienced “an unplanned disconnection from the BGE electric system,” according to a news release.
In a release Monday evening, BGE said that a power plant experienced and unplanned disconnection from the BGE electric system due to a transmission equipment issue. The company is continuing to coordinate with the plant’s owner to make repairs. The cause of the incident has not been identified according to the release.
BGE is also coordinating with PJM who manages the regional electrical system.
“This event was not a resource adequacy issue. It was a transmission constraint issue,” the statement said.
“Ultimately, PJM directed BGE to interrupt service for roughly 4,000 customers for 30 minutes around 4 p.m. to prevent longer and more substantial impacts to the system. We recognize this outage — any outage — is disruptive to customers, and we appreciate customers’ patience, especially in the heat, during this temporary disruption. The outage impacted customers in Howard County. The directive has since been lifted.”
BGE said it does not anticipate any additional outages related to this event, but will make every effort to alert customers in advance if one is necessary.
