Harford County tech summit attracts nearly 100 businesses
Harford County recently held its Technology Acceleration Summit – a forum co-hosted by the county government, U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command and Aberdeen Proving Ground – that featured opportunities for businesses to commercialize cutting-edge technologies developed by the Army.
Held at Southampton Middle School in Bel Air, the summit highlighted modern laser technologies used to: cut and mold metals in one continuous process (3D laser folded electronics), produce medical stents, and intricate circuit boards, among other applications.
The seven-hour event also emphasized innovations in biomanufacturing, synthetic biology and pyrotechnic technologies. In addition, industry experts and guests participated in briefings and a panel roundtable.
The summit’s 97 businesses held discussions with APG research scientists who developed the aforementioned technologies as Army Research Laboratory and Chemical Biological Center representatives discussed the technology transfer process for commercial use.
“Aberdeen Proving Ground is a key contributor to our national security and a critical economic engine in our region,” County Executive Bob Cassilly said.
“My intent in co-hosting this summit with APG was to enable our business community to leverage Army-funded research investments and bring innovative technologies to market through tech transfer.”
