Sister Patricia McCarron, S.S.N.D., Ph.D., is the superintendent of catholic schools for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. She has anchored her life in the Catholic faith and the fundamental mission of education. Her upbringing and Catholic school education played a significant role in shaping her path, with her parents witnessing to and living their faith while centering family life around their parish, St. Pius X and the Catholic schools their children attended.

McCarron explained that “the most important lesson I have learned as a leader is that leadership is service.

At the heart of servant leadership is God’s unconditional love and the leader’s love for God, the work and the people the leader serves.” She emphasized that leaders root their leadership in deep faith and commitment to the mission while focusing efforts on identifying, recognizing and appreciating the unique gifts that each person brings to the work.

McCarron identified leading during the COVID-19 pandemic as her most significant challenge, explaining it was “This unprecedented time called for the ability to adapt swiftly, proceed strategically, act efficiently, communicate effectively and be caring.”

Meeting this challenge required establishing a framework, following guidelines and building strong coalitions, ultimately allowing the school to remain open for in-person instruction while providing re-envisioned traditions and social events.

McCarron uses her influence to empower each person she encounters to use their gifts to make the world better. She focuses on empowering others through the education of young people, bringing people together to support the mission of providing Christ-centered education that empowers students to reach their full potential spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially and morally.

A sports enthusiast, McCarron spent countless hours playing basketball and softball as a young person, acquiring lifelong lessons about teamwork and leadership opportunities. She continues to be an avid sports fan, enjoying watching events and cheering along with family and friends.
