Riekhof, Paul

Paul Riekhof has built more than 25 years of practice advising individuals, families and businesses on estate and wealth planning matters as managing director and a principal in the estates and trusts group at Joseph, Greenwald & Laake, P.A. He traces his path to the field to observing both sets of his grandparents as they navigated estate and trust matters for themselves and older family members, and the conversations that followed inspired him to pursue a career as an estate and trust attorney.

From the firm’s Rockville office, Riekhof represents clients in estate planning, probate, trust administration, estate tax planning, business succession planning, guardianships and estate litigation. His practice focuses on navigating complex financial and legal structures, with an emphasis on minimizing tax exposure, protecting assets and planning for the future. He advises clients on wealth preservation strategies and trust structures, including revocable and irrevocable trusts, special needs trusts and charitable planning. He also works with business owners on succession planning and related agreements to help ensure continuity across generations, and he regularly handles trust and estate administration matters and related disputes, guiding clients through both routine and contested proceedings.

Riekhof earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado School of Law and graduated from the University of Chicago with honors. He is admitted to practice in Maryland; Washington, D.C.; the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland; and the U.S. Supreme Court. He serves as co-chair of the Managing Partners Group of the Maryland State Bar Association and as a fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation, and he has also served on the Appellate Courts Judicial Nominating Commission. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America for Litigation – Trusts & Estates.

Outside the office, Riekhof is active in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and enjoys skiing and golfing. He and his wife, Maria, are the parents of two children, Willa and Ian, and he counts his family among the people who inspire him most, along with the traits he finds inspiring: integrity, hard work, intelligence, creativity and perseverance.
