Lung Cancer Care

Frederick Health has built its Lung Cancer Care program around a sustained commitment to innovation that improves the quality, safety and accessibility of treatment for Marylanders. The organization’s surgical and oncology advancements reflect an effort to detect disease earlier and treat it with less invasive methods, increasing early-stage diagnoses while reducing the need for major procedures and lengthy hospital stays.
At the center of the program is a set of advanced detection and treatment technologies adopted in recent years, including 3D imaging, robotic-assisted lung biopsy systems and enhanced fluoroscopy techniques. These tools allow physicians to diagnose and treat lung cancer earlier and with greater precision. Pairing them with a coordinated multidisciplinary model has improved care coordination, supported more accurate diagnoses and shortened recovery times for patients.
What distinguishes the program is the way it integrates this technology with a streamlined care model. Detecting lung cancer at earlier stages through minimally invasive techniques improves outcomes and reduces patient risk, and an emphasis on efficiency allows patients to transition quickly from diagnosis to treatment without delays. Frederick Health also serves as a training site for advanced surgical techniques, extending its reach beyond its own patient population.
The program was developed and expanded through collaboration among surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, clinical staff and organizational leadership. Their goal was to strengthen early detection, enhance patient outcomes and reduce reliance on invasive procedures. Those aims have been met through a rise in early-stage diagnoses, greater treatment efficiency and improved overall experiences for patients.
Frederick Health holds designations as a Center of Excellence for Lung Cancer Care and Incidental Pulmonary Nodules.
and has been acknowledged for leadership in robotic-assisted surgery and clinical innovation.
