Kaiser Permanente regional president to retire
Rockville-based Kaiser Permanente announced mid-Atlantic regional president Ruth Williams-Brinkley plans to retire at the end of the year.
A national search for a new regional president will begin immediately. In the interim, Kaiser Permanente’s executive leadership team will work with Williams-Brinkley to ensure a smooth transition within the organization.
Williams-Brinkley became president of the mid-Atlantic region in June 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, after leading Kaiser Permanente’s Northwest region since 2017. She will remain in her role through Jan. 1, 2024.
Before coming to Kaiser Permanente, Williams-Brinkley served as CEO and chief nurse executive with various health systems across the U.S., including CommonSpirit, Ascension Healthcare and UAB Health System.
Throughout her career, which spans more than 40 years, Williams-Brinkley has leveraged her early professional experiences as a nurse as well as her role as a Black, female leader to advocate for health equity and the elimination of health disparities related to racial, economic and environmental inequities. She has worked to improve access to quality care, especially for those in underserved communities. As an executive, she also sought to shape a more diverse and inclusive workforce in every organization she has led.
