The Hon. Judge Amy D. Lorenzini’s commitment to community service began when she noticed children discarding uneaten and unopened food, including fruits and packaged food in the elementary school trash can at lunch. This observation led to her working to find food donations for several families in need.

In middle school, she spent her summers volunteering at a local camp for physically and mentally challenged individuals, and at the age of 13, she was awarded the Maryland You Are Beautiful Award for her volunteer work.

This passion has continued into her adult years, including volunteering with the planning committee for the Calvert County Bar Association’s Christmas in April, Law Day with the St. Mary’s Bar Association and the scholarship committee with the Calvert County Bar Association.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, Lorenzini was a law clerk to the Hon. Judge Marvin Kaminetz of the St. Mary’s County Circuit Court. She worked as an assistant state’s attorney at the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for two years before joining Cumberland & Erly in 2005 as an associate.

She would rise to become a managing partner at the firm before being named an associate judge in the St. Mary’s County Circuit Court in 2022.

Lorenzini considers her proudest professional accomplishment thus far in her career to be her consistent and continued involvement in pro bono activities and in improving the legal profession. Lorenzini established and maintained a family law clinic in Calvert County for unrepresented individuals for over a decade, and she served as chair of the local standing committee at Pro Bono Legal Services for more than 10 years. She has been a member of the state standing committee at Pro Bono Legal Services for the past two years. She has been on the Maryland State Bar Association Board of Governors and Executive Committee for several years. “(I) hope that the time I have spent has had an effect on the future of the legal system and practice of law,” she said.

“I hope to continue making a difference in our justice system through many means including, teaching, volunteering and organizing events to involve the next generation of lawyers and judges. My hope is that I can use my experience as a trial attorney and a judge to educate individuals on professionalism, ethics and being a part of the adversarial process without becoming enemies.”
