Golfers tee off for the ACS Maryland Golf Classic
The annual American Cancer Society Maryland Golf Classic, co-chaired by volunteer Alden “Smitty” Bradstock III of Veteran Design & Construction, and Adam Kleeman, of CohnReznick, had a beautiful day at Baltimore Country Club at Five Farms on Sept. 16.
Seventy-five golfers teed up to fight cancer, raising more than $170,000 for the American Cancer Society’s mission to end cancer as we know it for everyone. The event’s Eagle Sponsors were Allegis Group and Veteran Design & Construction.
The day of golf concluded with a celebratory dinner at which the annual American Cancer Society Visionary Award was presented to Scott Fader, chief operating officer of MileOne Autogroup, for their continued, extraordinary support of ACS.
Fader’s father was a visionary with a mission to fight cancer that Scott and his team have honored and made even stronger. Traditionally, Fader gives out the Visionary Award at the Maryland Golf Classic, but this year he was on the receiving end.
MileOne Autogroup’s support includes funding thousands of free rides for patients to cancer treatment, donating a car for ACS to raffle off as a fundraiser for the past 25 years, donating two patient transportation vans to the ACS Hope Lodge Baltimore, hosting monthly dinners for the guests at Hope Lodge, and major funding of the Capital Campaign for the future, larger, reimagined Hope Lodge.
An additional Hands Up for Hope fundraiser during the dinner raised $29K to fight pediatric cancer. Childhood cancer researcher Dr. Aditi Banerjee from University of Maryland School of Medicine and Sandy-Sherly Angeh, an ACS Diversity in Cancer Research intern she mentored, gave an inspiring presentation on potential breakthroughs in fighting childhood leukemia.
