Paul Riekhof serves as managing director and principal in Joseph, Greenwald & Laake’s Estates and Trusts Group with over 25 years of experience.

Based in Rockville, Riekhof represents individuals, families and businesses in estate planning, probate, trust administration, estate tax planning, business planning, guardianships and estate litigation.

Clients rely on him for counsel addressing complex structures, tax liabilities, asset protection and potential litigation issues. Riekhof specializes in strategic wealth preservation planning and trust administration.

Riekhof earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1995 and graduated with honors from the University of Chicago in 1989.

What’s the most important thing you do in your job?

The most important thing that I do is to carefully listen to our clients and then help them strategically address their estate and trust issues.

What is one aspect of your profession you would like to change?

I would like to see improvements in the speed and cost efficiency of the legal system. Those two elements of the system often cause clients to forgo matters of significant importance to them.

If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?

I thoroughly enjoy what I do. But if I weren’t practicing law, I might be involved in farming in one way or another. I grew up in a farming community and enjoy the challenges and opportunities that are associated with the farming industry.
