Brian D. Pieninck was named CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield’s president and CEO in 2018. The health insurance provider provides products and coverage to more than 3 million individuals and employers in Maryland, northern Virginia and the District of Columbia.
He first joined CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield in April 2015 as its executive vice president of the large group strategic business unit was named the chief operating officer two years later. Pieninck previously worked for nearly 20 years at Aetna in various leadership positions Including director of professional employer organizations and president of southeast national accounts.
Growing up in southeastern Pennsylvania, Pieninck earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University. He also graduated in 2016 from Leadership Maryland.
With a desire to give back, Pieninck has served on a number of boards, including the Greater Baltimore Committee, Federal Employee Program Board of Managers, Baltimore’s Promise and the Greater Washington Board of Trade.
