Joseph S. Johnston and Sean Gugerty were elected partners at Goodell DeVries.

Johnston is a member of the firm’s Medical Malpractice team, where he represents nurses, physicians, and several of the region’s world-class hospitals in defending against medical malpractice claims. He has litigated a variety of high-exposure cases, including claims of alleged birth injury, failure to prevent preterm birth, and catastrophic brain injury arising from alleged medication errors.

Gugerty is a member of the firm’s Medical Malpractice and Appellate Law groups, where he defends health care providers and institutions in medical malpractice claims and appeals. He also defends companies that make and sell over-the-counter medications and was part of the briefing team that won dismissal of more than 1,300 cases filed against generic manufacturer defendants in the Zantac multi-district litigation.
