Self-care connects everything in life: career, interactions and one’s personal life. Is this something you are doing well or is this a goal? What are your secrets if you are succeeding and what are your goals if this is a focus area where you want to learn from others?
Self-care is something that I continually redefine and learn through introspection and through and from others. What I need for myself is fluid and ever-changing depending on my emotional, physical, and mental state. Allowing myself the space to feel and process things fully and to learn what I can from situations is a work in progress. I feel most successful at self-care when I let go of perfection and allow myself grace and forgiveness.
Why is community service critical to your career and your personal leadership journey?
As a Maryland native, born and raised in Prince George’s County and resident of Baltimore County for the past 16 years, it is a privilege to serve within my community. Community service affords me additional opportunities to leverage professional knowledge and skills and apply them to real life. It allows me to connect to and build relationships with a variety of people and provide a service to those who need it most. Practicing altruism and acts of service and kindness allows me to continually return home to my truest self. This homecoming continues to reward me in my personal leadership journey in immeasurable ways — especially through growth, friendships, and support.
